“I want a trip inside your head, spend the day there. To hear the things you haven’t said and see what you might see.
I want to hear you when you call - do you feel anything at all? I want to hear your thoughts take shape and walk right out.”- Miracle drug, U2
I don’t think people understand the intensity at which people love the bands that they listen to. The complete adoration is difficult to put into words. You have a love for everything the band, as a whole, does or even what an individual member does. They can never do anything wrong in your eyes. Every sentence they say sticks with you. You live by their music. You get butterflies when you listen to their songs. You feel the raw power when you sing along. You feel the sheer gratitude that their music even exists, that they even exist. You praise them for their deep lyrics, and you can easily explain each song’s meaning. Your heart skips a beat when you hear that they’re making new music or releasing a new single or music video. You feel inexplicable joy when you’re wearing their t-shirt or other merchandise. You feel so close to the members, like they understand the way you feel. They let you know that you aren’t alone. They make you feel loved, and they give you this sense of belonging that you just can’t describe. You know the feeling… when you finally get to see them in concert. You head bang. You sing your heart out. And you dance like there’s no tomorrow, because when tomorrow comes, the concert will be over. You know the pain of post-concert depression. You leave part of yourself at each concert venue. You know the saving grace their lyrics hold. You become extremely excited when you see them on your TV or computer screen. You feel like a proud parent when you watch them perfectly answer questions in interviews. You know all of their quirks, all of their inside jokes. You find the inner beauty in every person in the band, no matter their appearance. You lose respect in other people that judge them for what they look like. You would defend them to the ends of the Earth, if you had to. They feel like family to you. Their music is like a home that you can visit whenever you need to. You know everything there is to know about them. You get a twinkle in your eye whenever you are able to talk about them. Some days, you want to sit alone in your room and rock out to their music all day rather than go out to a movie. They’re always your escape… when you’re sad, lonely, angry, rejected, scared, neglected, disappointed, depressed, or even if you’re happier than you’ve ever been before. You get embarrassed whenever they thank their fans or say that they love them. You feel like they are talking directly to you. You get confused and frustrated when you’re trying to explain what they mean to you to other people, because words just quite simply aren’t enough. Music can change your life, and their music has changed you. You love them with all of your being, and you are proud of it.
